MSc Politecnico di Milano / Architectural Association MA.Arch/Diploma, MSc University of Bologna
Born in Brescia, Lombardy, Italy, Manuele Gaioni was educated as an engineer at Politecnico di Milano and University College London, where he completed a Master of Science. He later continued his academic formation at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, completing the full five-year programme and developing a thesis focused on territorial-scale urbanism.
He also holds a degree from the University of Bologna in racing motorbike engineering, with a specific focus on dynamics and aerodynamics for Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP. This technical background has informed his cross-disciplinary approach to design, where architecture, engineering, performance systems and material intelligence converge.
Over the years, Manuele has specialised in computational design and engineering, working across the fields of cybernetics, biomimetic engineering, parametric design and advanced digital fabrication. His work explores the relationship between natural systems, complex geometries, adaptive structures and computational processes, aiming to develop design methodologies capable of operating across multiple scales, from objects and interiors to architecture, infrastructure and urban territories.
He has worked at ecoLogicStudio and Zaha Hadid Architects, contributing to internationally significant projects, including the façade and interior design of the King Abdullah Financial District Metro Station by Zaha Hadid Architects. Through these experiences, he developed a strong expertise in high-level architectural design, geometric rationalisation, complex surface systems and the integration of computational workflows within built environments.
Alongside his professional practice, Manuele has taught workshops at the Architectural Association and has been involved in teaching at The Bartlett School of Architecture, including courses within the MArch Urban Design programme and the Urban Morphogenesis Lab. His academic and professional work is driven by an interest in the fusion of architecture, computation, engineering and biological intelligence, with the aim of producing design systems that are both formally innovative and structurally, environmentally and conceptually rigorous.
