Designed as a “Desert Flower” blooming in the rugged yet beautiful landscape of Arizona, this villa looks at creating a sustainable living environment for the residents with an intimate relationship to the surrounding nature.

Site is spread over 5 acres in Scottsdale Arizona and has beautiful mountains on the north and city lights on the south. The design brief is to create a villa for a family of four, an outhouse alongside a show arena and stables for Persian horses.

The villa has been designed as three petals with three distinct zones: Master bedroom and study, children bedrooms and dining and living in the third zone. The great hall is located at the heart of the villa where the three petals meet, acting as a confluence zone for the family to enjoy.

The design undulates between built and landscape, creating outdoor courtyards for each wing, whereby the outdoor areas have a distinct function in relation to the indoor spaces.

Uninterrupted views from the villa were a key design driver. To capture these dramatic views of the site and surroundings full height glazing’s have been designed, and to counter the harsh climatic conditions and heat gain of the building, deep cantilevers have been provided that not only cut the heat but also create comfortable shaded outdoor spaces along the built form, extending the built further into the landscape.
