The proposed design creates a place of worship with the underlying design philosophy of “Unity”. This unity of parts into a whole has been reflected in the design, whereby an underlying grid consisting of intricate overlapping squares and circles seamlessly transform from landscape to build. The design of the Mosque itself, comprises of a series of vaulted structures aggregated together to create the form. Islamic arch has been transformed into a three dimensional vaulting system, which is both architectural as well as structural. Islamic patterns have been used on the domes and also vertical surface to create a dramatic play of light and shadow and also to control the heat gain.

The Design looks at amalgamating the two dominant axis existing on the site, first of the masterplan and second the orientation towards Mecca. The pattern used for the design respects both these axes and orients the people seamless from the central axis to the orientation of Mecca. The Dubai Creek tower’s axis consisting of landscape green is welcomed in the site and a gradient of green transforms into plaza within the site. This geometric pattern has been nested with hardscape, green, shallow water bodies and light. Given the duality of the pattern used the grid responds to the axis of Mecca and the orientation of the Mosque. Outdoor plaza can be used for prayers that are nested with in landscape water and green in the busy days otherwise it serves as a space for contemplation.

At city level the Dubai creek tower is a dominant form in the skyline and on the other end of the axis. It was critical to respond to this axis from the perspective of urbanism of the city. Silhouette of the proposal completes the axis thereby creating a crescent moon in section. Also looking at the development from the creek, the Mosque becomes an extension of the silhouette of the tower. The “Minaret” of the mosque is the highest point opposite of Dubai creek tower.
