Born in Stuttgart Germany, Britta Knobel Gupta pursued her Architectural studies in Konstanz Germany and Lyon France. She received a scholarship in 2004 to study M. Arch and Urbanism DRL from Architectural Association School of Architecture London. In 2006 she joined Zaha Hadid Architects and was involved in a number of seminal projects as Lead Project Architect which achieved international acclaim; Abu Dhabi Performing Arts Centre Broad Art Museum in Michigan and the Dubai opera house. She is also a professor at various architectural schools in Britain, Germany and India.
In 2010, Britta Knobel Gupta co-founded Studio Symbiosis Architects with Amit Gupta.
She has been awarded in her early career with the Newcomer Award 2002 and in 2014 the prestigious 40 under 40 Europe (the next new talented generation of European architects and designers). She has also been awarded the International Property Award for Best Hotel project of the year, Finalist in WAF and has also served as a part of the esteemed Jury at WAF held in November ’17. She will be returning as a judge to WAF Lisbon in 2022.
She has also received the Estrade International Award, Iconic Award, German Design award and Golden A’ Design Award for her notable contributions to the fields of architecture, design and landscape. As an invited speaker she gave prominent talks at TEDx Germany, Smart Geometry Hong Kong and CIBF Congress by AIT in Hamburg Germany and was featured by CNN.
She received the award for best hospitality architect of the year 2017 from IDE and is a winner of the esteemed WADE Award 2022.
Her design philosophy fuses sustainability and computational optimization to create smarter, more ecologically sound solutions. Blurring the lines between landscape and architecture and allowing nature to permeate within the built is a defining feature of her practice and can be reflected in her work.
