Santanu Roy – Director, Studio Symbiosis

Santanu Roy is an accomplished architect with over four decades of extensive experience across architecture, interior design, and large-scale urban and infrastructure projects. A graduate of Jadavpur University with First Class Honours, he has built a distinguished career working with leading Indian and international architectural firms, contributing to a diverse portfolio spanning residential, commercial, healthcare, hospitality, and transportation sectors.

Currently serving as Director at Studio Symbiosis, Santanu oversees architecture and interior design projects, bringing a strong focus on design quality, execution, and project management. He has also worked as a consultant and collaborated with reputed firms such as Design Forum International, Design Plus Architecture, and Helix Healthcare Architecture, providing expertise in design, drawing auditing, quality control, and project delivery.

Earlier, Santanu held the position of Chief Architect with SYSTRA AECOM CEG, where he played a key role in the design and execution of Pune Metro projects, including stations, depots, and multimodal integration systems. Prior to that, as Senior Principal Architect at SYSTRA MVA India, he led the design and coordination of metro stations across major Indian cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, and Ahmedabad, handling large multidisciplinary teams and complex infrastructure projects.

From 2010 to 2015, he served as Vice President – Business Operations at Sorg Architects, Washington DC, where he was instrumental in establishing, heading and managing the Gurgaon office, while leading major residential, commercial, and institutional projects for clients such as IREO. His earlier tenure with RSP Design Consultants involved establishing and heading the Gurgaon office and delivering large-scale developments including integrated townships, hospitals, corporate offices, and retail projects.

Santanu also ran his own successful architectural and interior design consultancy for over a decade, delivering a wide range of projects including luxury residences, farmhouses, hospitality projects, corporate offices, and retail spaces.

He began his professional journey with reputed firms such as Raj Rewal Associates, Arvind Gupta Associates, Team Consultants and Kothari Associates, contributing to landmark institutional, cultural, and international projects including the Festival of India in Paris and major academic and research institutions in India.

Santanu’s design approach combines practical execution expertise with a deep understanding of spatial planning, detailing, and project coordination. His long-standing career reflects a commitment to quality, innovation, and the ability to deliver complex projects across scales and typologies.
